According to a report in The Guardianby Oliver Milman and Jessica Glenza, published Thursday, a total of 33 cities across the United States, including Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Detroit and Milwaukee, used some of the same shortcuts and half-measures to gauge the safety of their water supply.

The Guardian‘s investigation “found that in the last decade, 33 city and town water departments, two water wholesalers and two states used testing methods that defied US Environmental Protection Agency guidance. These ‘tricks’ can conceal the amount of lead detected in water in households.”
